Mount Lookout’s Housing History and Character
Mount Lookout takes its name from the Cincinnati Observatory, which relocated to its bluff above the Ohio River valley in 1873 to escape the city's growing light pollution -- the neighborhood was literally named for the view, and nearby Alms Park still looks out over the river, the Kentucky hills, and Lunken Airport today -- and like many of Cincinnati's hillside neighborhoods it developed as a streetcar suburb in the decades around 1900.
